Woven by Our People
Preserving identity, supporting families, and sharing Kuki legacy through sustainable livelihoods.
The Kuki Weavers
The Kuki community resides in the rolling hills of Manipur and Northeast India. For generations, weaving has been a form of literature. Without written texts, historic events, nature motifs, and tribe lineages were woven directly into fabrics as detailed geometric grids.
Every cloth we produce is handloomed by women working from their home courtyards under the sun. This model allows them to remain anchors of their families while earning a fair, independent wage that values their intellectual heritage.
Ancestral Mathematics
Unlike power looms, the Kuki backstrap (or loin) loom requires no electricity. The weaver sits on the floor with a leather back strap, using her body weight to control the tension of the cotton warp threads. Every design is calculated line by line from memory.
By purchasing from **NiNa**, you are direct participants in the preservation of this heritage. We ensure that 100% of our production funds go directly back to the weaving households, ensuring this math is passed to another generation.
